Building and managing psychosocially resilient and sustainable work

This session was delivered at the NEBOSH Conference Glasgow in November 2025. It discussed the ongoing stigma surrounding mental health and the importance of recognising that mental health challenges are common, affecting nearly 964,000 people and often stemming from issues outside the workplace.

It explains the critical role of managers and organisations in creating supportive environments, advocating for a more human-centered approach that includes understanding individual struggles, providing multiple support options, and breaking down the traditional barriers that prevent open discussions about mental health.

The presentation highlights that mental health is not about measuring trauma, but about creating workplaces where people feel supported, can be authentic, and are encouraged to seek help without judgment, ultimately benefiting both individual wellbeing and organisational productivity.
